Abstract.
The basic concept of vibroseismic isolation of heavy mining machines, buildings and structures is considered in view of the rubber seismic blocks (RSB) use. The concept of seismic insulation of structures is very relevant. In Japan, New Zealand, France, Greece, England, the USA and in number of other countries, it is successfully used for protecting against earthquakes such important facilities as nuclear power plants, schools, bridges, museums, administrative and residential buildings. The most widespread are seismic isolation systems, including rubber blocks and mechanical protectors. In the countries above, the main scientific articles were published, however, without any analytical calculations and technological specificities of the element manufacture. In Ukraine, the concept was developed in two directions: designing of seismic isolation blocks for protection of residential buildings against earthquakes; and designing of vibration isolation blocks for protection against heavy equipment (with weight up to 300 tons being in use in Russia, Ukraine) and structures vibration. With the view of practical application of the seismic isolation systems in buildings, the N.S. Polyakov Institute of Geotechnical Mechanics under National Academy of Science of Ukraine and the state-owned enterprise NIISK conducted experimental studies the objectives of which were to: substantiate the RSB parameters; patent the blocks design; work out the design documentation; and manufacture experimental samples of three types of the seismic rubber blocks with diameters 400 mm and 500 mm and total height of the rubber layer: 2´120 mm, 2´70 mm and 2´50 mm. The results of static and dynamic tests of the RSB parametric series for protection of residential buildings against vibrations are presented. Studyi of a design of the pile with vibration-proof rubber supports is in the process. The designed and tested structures of the RSBs were used for protection of the following residential buildings in the city of Kiev: the 10-section 10-storey residential building in the Kikvidze street and the two-section 27-storey building in the Obolonsky avenue – against vibrations caused by motor vehicles and underground trains. The vibroseismic insulation with the RSBs creates natural frequency of the building horizontal oscillation less than 1 Hz, which corresponds to the requirements of the State Construction Regulations and Eurocode 8 concerning the design of seismic insulation systems for the buildings.
