Open data policy and FAIR principles
“Geotechnical Mechanics” journal supports the principles of open science and recommends that authors publish research data in the open access repositories.
The journal's editorial team is aligned with international FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) formulated in the Wilkinson Declaration and al. (2016) and supported by the European Commission under the Horizon program Europe.
Publishing research data in a repository with a permanent DOI identifier is a recommended practice for all authors and mandatory for authors whose funding includes open access requirements (grants, etc.).
Research data refers to any data used to obtain certain results, conclusions, or statements (propositions) in a publication, namely:
- numerical arrays of measurements of physical quantities and calculation results;
- datasets of mathematical modeling in CAD and computer simulations;
- results of full-scale and laboratory experimental studies;
- software code and scripts of software;
- measuring instrument calibration data and metadata;
- mechanical, thermophysical and other parameters of materials and geometric parameters of constructions.
FAIR data requirements
Findability
- availability of DOI (Digital Object Identifier);
- metadata contains:
- name of the data set;
- surname and first name of the authors and their ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID);
- article’s title;
- year of the article’s publication;
- keywords.
Accessibility
- open or partially open (hybrid) access or a simplified registration method;
- for partially open data:
- availability of public metadata;
- the ability to get access upon request;
- availability of a description of the procedure for getting access.
Interoperability
- open data formats:
- CSV, JSON, HDF5, NetCDF, XML, MAT (MATLAB), VTK, STL;
- the use exceptionally proprietary data formats without alternatives is prohibited;
- README file with a structure description and data units.
Reusability
- availability of Creative Commons license;
- README file:
- data structure;
- variables;
- units;
- software (software) and its versions;
- restrictions.
