Abstract. Front loaders with different capacity of buckets are used in many countries-mineral producers. The loaders are used in basic operations: rock excavating from the face and handling or transporting for short distances. While rocks are excavated from the face, the undermined loosened rocks fall at the level of the face floor. The paper presents different types of the undermined rock falls in the face. The falling is a dynamic, relatively fleeting process, which occurs in result of disturbed equilibrium between the shearing forces and retentivity acting in the blasted rocks undermined by an excavator or loader. The author calculates a needed height of the undermining face for easy operation of the front loaders. The face height is primarily determined by the extracted material and its physical and mechanical properties and by other characteristics. The findings allow to specify a range of stable face slope heights for safety work of loaders.

Keywords: wheel loader, the height of the face, the stability of rock, collapsed rock mass.
