Abstract: Influence of the flying dust on the protective efficiency of respirators was analyzed with taking into account duration of their use in the working conditions. It is stated that when the filter resistance achieves a critical level the aerosol is sucked in through the obturation bar slots rate of which depends on the face shape, material of the half mask  and expired valve type and impermeability.  Coefficients were specified for protective efficiency maintenance depending on the respirator use duration, and a dependence was defined between the penetration coefficient and resistance to breathing with taking into account specific working conditions.

In order to diminish the suction and to improve reliability of personal protection it is necessary, when designing any dust facilities for personal breathing protection (FPBP), to:

- design obturators with taking into account quality of filtering elements and duration of their exploitation;

- increase the contact closeness under the obturation bar through the reduced rigidity and width of the obturator surface and material elasticity and properly chosen points for fastening the headband;

- make recommendations for individual half-mask fitting which would provide a stable position of the FPBP on the face.

Keywords: protective efficiency of respirator, resistance of filtration, impermeability of expired valves.
