DETERMINATION OF GAS CONTENT AND METHANE PRESSURE IN THE COAL SEAMS

Abstract.
Content of free and adsorbed methane in the opened pores and microblocks of methane-saturated anthracite coal was estimated by quantity. To establish regularities of changes in density of the gas streams escaping through the cracks and pores of the coals a physical model of the coal matter was created which included cracks, connected with the opened pores (filtration volume), and closed pores. It is stated that methane content in the transporting channels (pores) makes more than one third from total methane content in the coal. A method of and facilities for estimating gas content and methane pressure in the coal were created basing on peculiar features of the gas emission of methane. A mechanism of methane desorption from the coal was defined with taking into account specific crack-porous structure of the coal and phase state of methane in it. Technical parameters were grounded, and a device for measuring, in mines, gas-content and methane pressure in the coal was designed and tested.
