IMPACT OF RIGIDITY OF A PROTECTIVE CONSTRUCTION ON THE STRESS-STRAIN STATE OF THE ROCK MASS AROUND THE ROADWAYS SUPPORTED AFTER THE LONGWALL

Abstract.

The most important challenge with which the Ukrainian coal industry traditionally faces is providing an operating stability for the mine tunnels and improving their reliability. Purpose of the research presented in this paper is to study changes in the geomechanical situation around a preparatory roadway when it enters a supporting zone behind a stope and to determine an impact of rigidity of a protective construction on stability of the preparatory roadway after the longwall.

The study was conducted by finite element method. The simulation found that at supporting the tunnel after the longwall, location of maximum stresses and type of the volume stress state in the main roof on the border with the goaf were dependent on the rigidity of protective construction. Area of the maximum stress formation in the main roof determines a point of the roof destruction and stability of the protected tunnel. In case of insufficient rigidity of the protective construction or its delayed inclusion into the work it is necessary to develop special methods of protection which can cause a forced destruction of the main roof over the protective construction and ensure the tunnel stability after the longwall. The studies defined spheres where methods  of the forced destruction of the main roof can be applied.
