DETERMINATION OF PLUG PARAMETERS FOR ROCK ROOF HYDRAULIC FRACTURING IN THE COAL SEAM

Abstract.
Design of a sealing plug proposed by the authors and its advantages in comparison with existing ones are considered in the article. A value of flexible plug compression is determined at which a borehole is securely sealed. A rate of flexible plug compression needed for proper sealing of the borehole is specified. Dependence is set between hydraulic fracturing pressure in the rock roof and depth of the roof occurrence.
Diameter of the sealing plug was calculated by the Poisson’s ratio. An example is given of how to calculate fluid pressure needed for the rocks hydraulic fracturing, and fluid pressure needed for resisting against rock pressure. Results of the calculations are summarized in the table.
Analysis of the immediate roof in the coal seams of Donets Basin shows that the roof consists of various siltstones and sandstones. It is concluded that for the roof rocks hydraulic fracturing at great depths (1000 m or more) it is necessary to use a pump station with head pressure up to 45 MPa.
