Abstract.
Analysis and synthesis of physical properties of rocks and ores in the Krivoy-Rog iron ore district and its adjacent areas were in the focus of this research. Information about differentiation of density and magnetic characteristics of Proterozoic and Archean metamorphosed sedimentary and volcanic, ultrametamorphic and intrusive rocks was studied and systematized.
An integrated technique was used for processing results of measurements of physical properties for the entire Srednepridneprovsky region. For the purpose of this research, information was collected from the production part of geological and geophysical reports and other literature. Analysis of the available geological and geophysical maps of Krivoy Rog iron ore district has showed that location density of the wells drilled in the area is nonuniform and corresponds to the scale from 1:100,000 to 1: 50,000.
Physical properties of crystalline rocks were studied resulting in petrophysical classification of the rocks which were divided into petrodensity and petromagnetic groups with taking into account regular dependence between physical properties and rock composition and texture which reflect conditions of the rock formation, lithogenesis and metamorphism. Using of the existing system of geological and geophysical criteria for identifying formations helps concretizing a possibility of using rock physics in the study of tectonics and structural-lithological units in the Krivoy Rog iron-ore district and its adjacent areas. The presented results of research allow making petrodensity and petromagnetic maps of lateral variability of the rock physical properties, estimating changes in physical parameters with depth and their impact on the earth anomalous effects observed on the surface.
