Abstract. The article shows that in order to use drinking water in the preparation cycle when reverse engineering of the bulk carbon filter shells is applied, special attention should be drathe type of corrosion-resistant material chosen for the shells. Conditions of the existing filter shell wn to existing filter shell operation were studied, factors, which cause the shell corrosion, were identified and justified, and impact of these factors on the rate of corrosion was evaluated. It is stated that the main types of corrosion of stainless steel shells of the bulk carbon filters are the knife, grain-boundary and pitting corrosions. The stainless steel types and grades with the highest corrosion resistance were validated for using as a structural material for the bulk carbon filter shells.
Keywords: reverse engineering, preparation of drinking water, bulk carbon filter, activated carbon, stainless steel, corrosion.
