Abstract. Safety improvement during the reconstruction of engineering networks at the construction site with the restricted area is a pressing problem today. Various schemes of excavation and installation (dismantling) works were analyzed, and those schemes, which are mostly often used in Ukraine were chosen. These schemes were divided into a group with narrow construction site and a group with wide construction site. Our investigations prove existence of dependence between the width and complexity of the work front and a scheme chosen for fulfilling these works. In result of the research, a criterion was established for evaluating safety of the works depending on the chosen scheme. The findings can be used for choosing the most safety schemes for excavation or installation (dismantling) works, including at production of works on industrial areas and in the superficial complex of coal mines.
