Abstract.

Lately, more and more preparatory roadways are mined by tunneling machines, especially when high rates of drivage are required. At the same time, considering that the majority of mines are working in strata prone to gas dynamic phenomena, there is a need for safety measures for mining the prone-to-outburst rocks. Therefore, in this article, an attempt is made to generalize experience and peculiarities of safety drivage by tunneling machines.

The key issues of blast-free mining of prone-to-outburst rocks by rotary-type tunneling machines are considered. Within the framework of the article, the main provisions of the concept of development and damping of rock- and gas-outbursts and other gas-dynamic phenomena are considered. The concept of controlled release of energy from the rock massif mined by tunneling machines is given. Physics of interdependence between parameters of acoustic signal and state of the rock massif and acoustic method for controlling risk of outburst of the rock massif mined by tunneling machine are presented. These areas of research are briefly considered below. Results of boring of vertical trunks by tunneling complexes are considered. Results of the blast-free mining of horizontal workings and tunnels in the prone-to-outburst rocks are given. The article also presents basic principles of rotor-type tunneling machine automation and technological scheme for laying out facilities for automatic control of tunneling machine in the prone-to-outburst face.

The developed concept of controlled release of rock mass energy is defined as a scientific discovery, the essence of which lies in the fact that as the rate of movement of the exposed rock surface increases, the intensity of brittle fracture of rocks in the face area increases due to the concentration and localization of the rock pressure forces. This pattern manifests itself most actively in rocks with pronounced properties of brittleness, for example, coal, sandstone, etc.

Results of the investigation of physical and mechanical bases for interdependence of parameters of acoustic signals in the rock massif were obtained with taking into account the rock state, and the findings presented in the article allowed to determine conditions for seismic impulse formation and propagation when the strained rocks were destructed. This made it possible to propose a method for controlling risk of rock outburst basing on two most important control parameters< details of which are described in the article. The designed algorithm of acoustic method for forecasting the rock outburst during mining by tunneling machines was included into the normative documents.
