Abstract. The results of experimental researches of determination of the numerical values and spatial orientation of the main components of the current stress fields in coal-bearing massifs of the mines. Available evidence suggests that within the same mine field maximum horizontal stresses are different, and require the use of a number of measurements on sections with different stress-strain state, and description of the improvement method to estimate the stress state of rocks by de-termining the direction and shape of hydraulic fractures. To solve this problem, we use ground-penetrating radar, allowing it to gather information about the areas and forms of cracks from frac-turing, wherein the working fluid contains a solid material with high reflectivity of electromagnetic radiation that is considerably more informative for assessment of stress state of rocks when fractur-ing.
Keywords: geomechanics, geophysics, ground-penetrating radar, hydraulic fracturing, stress state, rock.
