Abstract. Annotation. The topical issues of the accumulation of rock dumps in operating coal mines of the mining regions of Ukraine and prospects for their further industrial development are considered. Geometry of the rock dumps in the coal mines of Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Lviv and Volyn regions was analyzed, and their most characteristic basic qualitative and quantitative parameters were determined. It is proposed to group and systematize the rock dumps into eight separate regions depending on density of their location and place of their formation. The most attractive regions were identified, which are promising for formation of rock dumps because of significant coal content, sufficient reserves of accumulated rocks, geometry of dumps (mostly flat ones) convenient for development, sufficient infrastructure and necessity for soon clear of valuable lands. Main directions of the rock dump usage are shown, including extraction of valuable components to be used as valuable raw materials for the construction industry. Attention is focused on technological, economic and social aspects of feasibility of the rock dump industrial development, as well as on the main reasons that currently hamper this process.
Keywords: Keywords: rock dump, geometrical parameters, industrial development, zoning, rare earth metals, coal.
