Abstract. Amplitude-frequency spectra of the seismoacoustic signals are used for the current forecasts of sudden gasdynamic phenomena in coal mines. Relevant normative forecast indicators were determined on the basis of numerous studies. In most cases, electrodynamic velocimeters were used as sensors and analog spectral analysis was used. The author considers specific features caused by transition to the use of piezoelectric accelerometers and numerical methods of analysis. The investigations were based on the assumption that the signals were the ergodic stationary random functions. It was suggested that ratio between "high-frequency" and "low-frequency" components of the spectral power density of the oscillation speed could be the forecast indicator. This ratio has a clear physical essence and characterizes ratio of average oscillation powers at corresponding frequencies. Specificity of determining the forecast index was considered, and the index critical values were estimated. Basing on known empirical data, it is shown that the estimation can be confined by spectral analysis. Parameters of the digital spectral analysis were obtained, which help calculating of the forecast index with the accepted precision.
