Abstract. The stress-strain state of a rock sample of truncated conical shape at its uniaxial compression is studied. The method for calculating the ultimate strength of the samples truncated-cone shape under uniaxial compression is developed, and we get the expression for the calculation of their ultimate strength. The influence of internal friction of the material and contact friction on the load application surface on the limit stress in the sample is taken into account. The relationship between the cone angle and the ultimate strength of the truncated-cone shape samples has been established. A comparison of the obtained results with experimental data showes their satisfactory conformity.
