Abstract.
Petrographic researches of mineral composition of sedimentary rocks in Donbas carboniferous stratum were conducted. Samples taken from the mines and samples taken from exploratory boreholes in the Donetsk-Makiivka, Pokrovsk (former Chervonoarmiysk), Lysychansk, South-Donbas, Bokovo-Hrustalnyy, Torezs-Snizhnyansk, Аlmazno-Маriivska and Krasnodon geological-industrial districts were studied. Rocks containing coals in a range from jet coal to anthracite were researched. New data about mineral composition of the carboniferous stratum rocks of different degree of cata- and metagenesis were obtained. The features of mineral changes in sandstones and clay rocks depending on the stage of their post-diagenetic transformations were specified (explored and described) by new petrographic data. It is shown that upper boundary of the late catagenesis stage consists of transformations of the clay-hydromicaceous aggregate of rocks cement into cleanly hydromicaceous and disappearance of montmorillonite. Upper boundary of the deep catagenesis includes transition of rocks containing coal grades OS, T → A, i.e. transition of the low temperature micas polytype 1М to high temperatures 1М1. These transformations are mostly significant in litotype argillite → mica shales, where hydromicaceous-micaceous composition is transformed into monomineral muscovite. In sandstones, it is the autometasomatism substitutions of cement by macrocrystalline calcite (the structure of «fontenblo type»). Sharp transformation of mica and calcitezation of rocks containing anthracites, are the evidences of the sharp "jump" of conditions, at which anthracitezation of bituminous coals has happened. On the basis of specified minerals-indicators and the studied mineral transformations in the host rocks, it is possible to make a conclusion about the coal composition by grades and commercial gas content in the investigated districts, i.e. to forecast gas saturation of the massif and probable formation of free methane accumulations. The sharp increase of gas content in the coal beds is related to the upper boundary of late catagenesis (gas-coal grade) and their transition to the category of outburst-prone strata.
