Abstract:
The article describes history of the Rock Mechanics Department creation and development and the most important scientific and applied results which the Department obtained for the whole period of its existence. It is noted that the Department underwent a lot of changes, heads of the Department were changed several times, though scientific orientation was preserved: studying dynamic phenomena in the rocks for forecasting areas with risks of outbursts; improving methods to forecast stability of the mine tunnels; pressure behavior in the process of winning operations
