The article describes some live geological issues concerning coal, oil and gas extraction from Ukrainian deposits and ways of their solving and presents up-to-date scientific developments (methods and practices) used for estimating rock and coal failures and rock stress-strain state, conducting a stage analysis of settling formations and making decisions on other pressing problems.
