Abstract.

The paper describes the problems arising in the east of Ukraine due to liquidation of coal-mining enterprises. An integrated research of the environmental consequences of the mass coal mine liquidation was conducted. The aim of the research was to analyze and systematize environmental consequences caused by the mines closing.

The work includes theoretical research of the key problems and consequences of the coal-mining enterprises liquidation, system analysis of consequences of the coal mine liquidation, and a technique of waste dump examining in the closed coal mines. On the basis of the theoretical analysis three problems are identified which should be solved while liquidating the mining enterprises: physical liquidation of mines, social protection of dismissed workers and environmental safety. Examples of negative consequences of coalmineclosure are presented. The work presents analysis of areas with methane emissions, flooding and deformation of the ground in Eastern Ukraine.

Methods for monitoring problem areas of the earth's surface are summarized.

The key environmental consequences of the coal mine closure for the background objects were defined. The study will help to form theoretical, practical and information base of ecological safety level in terms of coal mine liquidation and may be use as a basis for the further development and implementation of highly efficient methods at closing unprofitable mines.
