Abstract. The intensive development of the mining industry has resulted in creation of huge storage areas on the ground surface for storing colliery waste and waste minerals. The man-made objects supersede and replace the natural objects, natural balance has been disturbed, and environ-ment has undergone significant changes. After operation of the tailing storages complete, a problem of their reclamation becomes a pressing challenge. Currently, a biological method is applied for rec-lamation of the tailing ponds, which, however, does not solve the environmental problems.
The article provides recommendations on selecting and applying different methods of tailings storage reclamation depending on their geometry and method of their placement on the ground sur-face.
The directions and options for using the tailings storage reservoirs after the end of their opera-tion without the traditional reclamation are grounded.
The recommendations can be used for solving environmental and socio-economic problems in the areas where enterprises of mineral mining and processing are located.
Keywords: tailings storage, reclamation, use in the household
