The article is devoted to the first stage of solving the problem of determining the possibility of using automated mesh filters for clarifying mine water in the Zaporizhskyy Iron-Ore Plant. Subject of the study was technological parameters of the filter application - the cell size of the mesh filter element, relationship between the amount of trapped contaminants and the pressure drop across the filter element, time period during which maximum amount of contaminants is accumulated on the filter. Purpose of the work was to establish dependence of the pressure drop across the filter element on the mass concentration of contaminant particles during their "salvo" flowing into the filtered water. During the research, the following tasks were solved: the possibility to trap contaminant particles of the mine water in the Zaporizhskyy Iron-Ore Plant by the filter mesh was experimentally confirmed; mass concentration of contaminants in the filtered water was established at their “salvo” feeding to the filtration, during which the filter element becomes critically contaminated; time period was determined, during which filter element is critically polluted when contaminants are "salvo" fed for filtration. The experimental work was carried out by using express filter bench with the size of mesh cell of 270 mcm. As a result of the experiment, technical feasibility of efficient trapping of contaminant particles in the mine water of Zaporizhskyy Iron-Ore Plant by the filtering mesh with cell size 270 mcm was experimentally proved; dominant particle size was less than 50 microns. A nonlinear increasing dependence was established between the pressure drop across the contaminated filter element and initial amount of the contaminants in the filtered water. It was determined that with a "salvo" supply of contaminants of mine water in Zaporizhskyy Iron-Ore Plant in amount of 1.18 g and filtration rate of 7 cm/s, a specific load of pollution is formed in terms of filter element 0.45 kg/m2 and maximum pressure drop 1 atm.

The findings can be used for designing or selecting filters for fine filtration of mine water or processing water from mining and processing enterprises. For reasonable choice of filter and its technological parameters for filtering mine water in Zaporizhskyy Iron-Ore Plant it is necessary to continue research with filtering water with evenly distributed contaminants along the filter.
